What We Do
Our Mission
DHH’s mission is to address issues of racism, racialized trauma, and white dominance in homeopathy.
Our Vision
To make homeopathy accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.
The impetus for the group was the murder of George Floyd in May 2020 and the increasing awareness of systemic racism in the United States. There were some efforts in the homeopathy community to engage in antiracist work, however- these efforts were met with resistance and denial that systemic racism is present in homeopathic care.
There seemed to be an assumption that homeopathy practitioners, as “objective observers,” are inherently non-racist, and therefore homeopaths do not engage in racist behavior. Ergo, homeopaths do not have to address antiracism within the practice.
We disagree.
Aside from misunderstanding Hahnemann’s intention of ‘objective observer,’ racism and white supremacy are systemic and institutional. As part of the health care and wellness industries, homeopathy and homeopaths are not exempt from the racist and biased behavior that have affected/continue to affect People of Color.
Deepening Humanity in Homeopathy was formed in April, 2021.
DHH exists to share what we’ve learned and expand the group to include others motivated to do antiracist work and confronting systemic racism in homeopathy and homeopathy education.
Values
We are committed to listening to stories and bearing witness to the experiences of People of Color in our community.
We value the relevance and impact of racial trauma, as well as historical, collective, and intergenerational racial trauma in our practice and in our personal lives.
We seek to improve access to homeopathic care and homeopathy education among People of Color.
We encourage the development of cultural awareness and competencies in practitioners’ private practices through education and curricula so as to not perpetuate further harm to client populations.
We strive for a more balanced representation of People of Color within the community at large including a more equitable representation of power.
We aim to advance a more humanistic approach to homeopathy by asking those in power, i.e., schools, educators, and homeopathy organizations/institutions, to explore and honor perspectives and lived experiences that vary from white dominant culture.
We advocate for more accountability to the people we serve to effectively provide homeopathy to a wider community.
